Threadbear Quilting Castlemaine Patchwork Quilt Shop

We specialise in reproduction fabrics from the 1800s and the 1930s. We also love country style fabrics and always have a sampling of the ‘pretties’ as well as a ready supply of the basics. Original designs often feature in our shop so you can find patterns unique to us.

We offer fabric bundles in a range of sizes and combinations so you have the opportunity to get a variety of fabrics that are great value for that old fashioned scrappy look, Dear Jane, Nearly Insane or whatever you fancy.

Open 6 days a week, you can also visit our charming shop in historical Castlemaine in central Victoria. Our address is: 58 HARGRAVES STREET, CASTLEMAINE.

Here’s our four-legged assitant helping himself to the grapes in the shop’s courtyard! Sam visits often when Kurt can spare him from his workshop at home. Sam is a 17 month old Spoodle with just two speeds: flat out or sound asleep!
History of Threadbear

Threadbear opened its doors in March 1992 and resides in a gracious brick building that housed a bakery in the 1800s in central Victoria. Very fitting as we specialise in reproduction fabrics from that era.

Also in keeping with this time in history is the fact that the space is shared with Castlemaine Antiques, owned & operated by my partner, Kurt who specialises in Australian country furniture.

Kurt & I migrated from America in the mid 70s and moved to Castlemaine in the mid 1980s. My connection with patchwork is through my grandmothers who were both keen stitchers and taught me the basics of embroidery. Patchwork became my passion many years ago.
